Roar cruise to 3-0 win over Glory
(AAP) - Perth Glory's defensive frailties have been exposed for the third straight A-League game as Queensland Roar romped their way to a 3-0 victory at Members Equity Stadium.
First-half goals to Craig Moore, Matt McKay and Charlie Miller sealed the win for the Roar, who encountered little resistance from Perth's besieged defence, which has leaked 11 goals in their past three games.
The Glory's third loss of the season leaves the once proud club dead last after four rounds with just a single point to their name, while Queensland's first win of the season lifts Frank Farina's men to equal fourth with Central Coast on the table with
five points.
To compound the Glory's woes, star Brazilian recruit Amaral was stretchered off in
the 73rd minute after suffering what appeared to be a serious hamstring injury,
leaving the Glory to fight out the rest of the match with 10 men.
Perth made a bright start to the contest with Eugene Dadi posing a threat early but
it was the Roar who drew first blood in the 14th minute after earning a free kick
25m out from goal.
The Glory's defence went walkabouts as Massimo Murdocca made a short pass to the
unmarked McKay, whose dangerous pass across goal found a charging Moore outside the
box.
The Roar captain made no mistake with the finish, blasting a low drive past Perth
'keeper Jason Petkovic, who had been recalled in place of the out-of-favour Frank
Juric.
The goal should have been a wake-up call for the Glory but just four minutes later
Perth were caught napping again from an almost identical situation.
Petkovic saved them from further blushes on that occasion but McKay doubled the lead
in the 23rd minute when he latched on to a cute flick from Dutchman Serginho van
Dijk and converted with the outside of his left boot.
Perth's lackadaisical defence took another battering in first-half injury time when
Reinaldo beat Jamie Coyne down the right and sent a pin-point pass to Miller, whose
powerful strike brushed Petkovic's hand on the way to the back of the net.
Coyne was substituted at halftime as Glory coach Dave Mitchell attempted to halt the
bleeding but the change did little to halt Queensland's momentum.
Van Dijk came agonisingly close to notching the Roar's fourth goal in the 58th
minute following another defensive blunder from the Glory, and just two minutes
later the Roar striker hit the crossbar with a lunging attempt from three yards out.
It was the 18th consecutive game the Glory failed to keep a clean sheet, equalling
the unenviable record the now defunct New Zealand Knights set in 2005/06.
