DPJ head Ozawa to change constituency
TOKYO, Sept. 14 Kyodo - Ichiro Ozawa, president of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, will change his constituency to somewhere in the Kanto area from Iwate No. 4 district, his home location, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Hatoyama told a TV program Sunday.
Hatoyama suggested it may be one option for Ozawa to run in the Tokyo No. 12 district, the home of Akihiro Ota, the leader of the New Komeito party, the coalition partner of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party.
Ozawa first gained a House of Representatives seat as an LDP member in 1969 and served as LDP secretary general, the No. 2 post in the party, from 1989 to 1991.
However, he left the LDP in 1993 and joined the DPJ in 2003. He became its president in 2006 replacing Seiji Maehara.
The third two-year term of Ozawa, 66, as DPJ leader will be formally endorsed
at its extraordinary convention on Sept. 21.
