FM TO LEAD MALAYSIAN DELEGATION TO ASEAN MINISTERIAL MEETING AND RELATED MEETINGS IN BALI
KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- Foreign Minister Anifah Aman is leading a Malaysian delegation to the 44th Asean Ministerial Meeting (AMM), Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) and 18th Asean Regional Forum (ARF) in Bali, Indonesia from 16 to 23 July.
According to a Foreign Ministry statement Thursday, the 44th AMM would be preceded by several other important meetings, namely the Asean Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM) and the Meeting of the Southeast Asian Nuclear Weapon Free Zone (SEANWFZ) Commission.
"The 44th AAM will focus on Asean Community Building and the implementation of the Asean Charter. The ministers will also discuss measures to achieve the theme of Indonesia's chairmanship of Asean, "Asean Community in a Global Community of Nations".
"Besides that, the meeting will exchange views on international and regional issues of common concern as well as means to enhance Asean relations with its partners and global community," it said.
The Asean Foreign Ministers are also scheduled to attend the Asean Plus Three Foreign Minister's Meeting and the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Minister's Consultation.
"The EAS Foreign Ministers' Consultation will involve for the first time, the Russian Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State," the statement said.
It said that the Asean Foreign Ministers would also attend the PMC with their counterparts from the Dialogue Partners including Australia, Canada, India, Japan, New Zealand and the United States.
"The foreign ministers will review the achievements over the past year and discuss future directions," it said.
