OVER 3,000 LIVERPOOL FANS THRILLED TO MEET THEIR IDOLS
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Over 3,000 local and foreign Liverpool FC
fans were thrilled to meet their idols at the meet and greet session held in the
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur concourse Friday.
Fans from the Liverpool FC Fan Club of Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand,
Indonesia and the Philippines gathered at the concourse since 12 noon, although
the session was scheduled at 3pm.
In the "meet-the-fans" session, Liverpool was represented by its assistant
coach Steve Clarke, Andy Carroll (striker), Raul Meireles (winger), Sotiros
Kyrgiakos (midfielder), Jamie Carragher (defender), Christian Poulsen
(midfielder) and John Flanagan (defender).
Poulsen said he and the rest of the team had not expected such an
overwhelming welcome from their Malaysian fans who had filled up one of the
shopping mall.
"I hope we can pay back with a good game at the stadium. We are looking
forward to Saturday's game," said Poulsen.
The meet-the-fan session was in conjunction with Standard Chartered's
official launch of its 'Standard Chartered Liverpool FC MasterCard Debit Card',
with the card design featuring the 'Liverbird' club logo and images of Liverpool
FC's current players.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Bernama, fans expressed their excitement
over the prospect of being able to watch their favourite team in action right
before their eyes at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil tomorrow.
"I am excited to see the game between Liverpool FC and Malaysia Saturday
because this is the first time I will see the team live. And hope Liverpool will
do their best and I believe they will win," said Youssef Ahmed from Syria.
Stephen Mike from Canada said he was happy and excited to watch the match
and hoped Liverpool would win the game and show some exciting football.
Kuala Lumpur is the second city in the Liverpool FC 2011 Asia Tour and the
match against the Malaysian national team will kick-off at 5.45pm.
Earlier in another meet-the-player session held at the Adidas outlet in The
Gardens, fans were thrilled to meet Liverpool FC's striker Dirk Kuyt, Martin
Kelly (defender), Jack Robinson (defender) and Charlie Adam (midfielder).
