JAWA POS CAN BE PUBLISHED IN MALAYSIA, SAYS DPM MUHYIDDIN

SURABAYA, July 16 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government is prepared to give
permission to the Indonesian media giant, Kumpulan Jawa Pos, to publish its
newspaper in Malaysia, said Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister also pointed out that he would assist
the company if it was keen to publish the newspaper in Malaysia.

"If there is an application, I can ask the minister (concerned) to issue the
publishing permit," he said at a meeting with more than 20 senior editors of
Kumpulan Jawa Pos, here Friday.

He was replying to a question posed by one of the editors of the media
company on the possibility of the Jawa Pos spreading its wings to Malaysia.

Currently, the company's newspapers were sent to Malaysia by post to fulfill
the need of a section of the Indonesian workforce, most of whom originated from
East Jawa.

Muhyiddin believed that the newspaper company had the potentials to grow in
Malaysia in view of the fact that there were about four million Indonesian
workforce in Malaysia, including two million who entered the country illegally.

The Jawa Pos National Network (JPNN) is the biggest newspaper chain in
Indonesia, with more than 151 regional and national newspapers.

The Nielsen Media Research said the Jawa Pos newspaper group, based in
Surabaya, became the leading newspaper in Indonesia at the end of 2009, with the
biggest number of readership.
