INDONESIAN INFORMATION OFFICERS ON A FOUR-DAY VISIT TO PENANG

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), July 19 (Bernama) -- A delegation of Indonesian information officers are on a four-day visit to the state starting Tuesday as part of an exchange programme involving information officers of both countries.

The delegation of nine officers was led by Drs Erlangga Masdiana M. Si, who is the International Relations Director of the republic's Information and Public Communications Ministry.

Among the first programme they had in the northern state was visiting the Penang Information Department where they were briefed by its director, Mohamad Fatkhul Hatta Robiki, on the department's roles and functions, including on the 1Malaysia Community, previously known as the Komuniti Bestari (Smart Community).

Speaking to reporters later, Drs Elangga said Indonesia had a similar machinery called the Community Information Cluster which also used arts and cultural elements such as handicrafts to deliver information to the people.

"Both have the same roles -- to provide information and ensure that
information on government policies are understood by the community and target groups," she said.

The delegation would later be taken to visit other agencies under the Information Communication and Culture Ministry as well as to villages to meet with the local community.
