MALAYSIA'S ENVOY TO SWITZERLAND ALSO ASSIGNED TO VATICAN CITY STATE
KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- Minister in Prime Minister's Department Nazri Aziz said Tuesday Malaysian Ambassador to Switzerland will also be accredited to Vatican City State following the establishment of diplomatic relations between both sides.
Currently Ho May Yong is the Malaysian Ambassador to Switzerland.
Nazri believed that the world's smallest country, a sovereign, independent territory of 0.44sq km, would also reciprocate by assigning a diplomat to Malaysia.
He told reporters after attending a "Green and Energy Efficient Courthouses" programme here, Tuesday.
Nazri said the government's move to establish formal diplomatic ties with the Vatican was a right and a consistent move.
He also said Prime Minister Najib Razak was a farsighted leader to establish ties with The Vatican.
Najib, after a meeting with Pope Benedict XVI at the papal summer residence in scenic Castel Gandolfo, outside Rome on Monday announced that Malaysia and the Vatican had agreed to establish formal diplomatic relations to promote bonds of mutual friendhip and strengthen cooperation between both sides.
