Disgraced NSW ex-cop admits to corruption
A disgraced former NSW police officer has pleaded guilty to five charges including corruption, fraud and receiving proceeds of crime.
Christopher John Laycock was sacked from the force in November 2004 after admitting to a Police Integrity Commission (PIC) hearing that he had been involved in theft, robbery, extortion and other corruption.
The PIC recommended in December 2005 that criminal charges be laid against the former detective sergeant.
In August 2007, he was charged with a raft of offences and was due to face trial in the NSW District Court this month.
Laycock's name has previously been suppressed, but the order was lifted on Wednesday when he pleaded guilty to receiving proceeds of crime, obtaining a benefit of $11,000 by deception, unlawfully accessing a computer intending to steal, corruptly receiving a benefit of $3,900, and lying to the PIC.
The charges relate to incidents including an aggravated break and enter in which Laycock pretended to be on police business and dishonestly obtained $11,000.
He also unlawfully accessed a police data base to find out information about a person with the intention of stealing money from them.
The charge of corruptly receiving benefit arose from Laycock accepting almost $4000 cash as a reward for providing police information about the proposed execution of a search warrant on a particular property.
His matter is listed for mention on August 5 and he will be sentenced at a later date.
