CHINA'S MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS APOLOGISES OVER FATAL TRAIN CRASH
WENZHOU, July 25 (Bernama) -- China's Ministry of Railways apologised late Sunday to all passengers of the ill-fated trains which collided in East China on Saturday night which left 35 people, including two foreigners, dead and 192 injured.
Wang Yongping, the ministry spokesman, also conveyed condolences to the victims and their families.
The crash occurred at about 8.30pm on Saturday on a bridge near Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province when a high-speed train rear-ended another.
An initial investigation showed that the second train had lost power and stalled after being struck by lightning, according to the spokesman.
However, Wang said the ministry is still confident in the country's
high-speed trains.
"China has advanced high-speed railway technology. We are still confident about that," Wang said.
