Iran’s junior volleyball team to travel to Brazil today

TEHRAN, July 25 (MNA) -- Iran’s junior volleyball team will leave Tehran today to take part in the 2011 FIVB Men's Junior World Championship.

The competition will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 1-10 with participation of 16 teams divided into four pools of four teams each.

The top two teams from each pool will move onto two new pools of four before the first and second ranked teams from each group move onto the semifinals.

Iran has been drawn in pool D along with Serbia, Canada and Belgium. The 2007 bronze medalist finished at 7th place in the previous edition which was held in Pune, India two years ago. Brazil claimed the title after defeating Cuba in the final game.

“There is no pressure on us since Iran has finished at seventh place in the previous edition and no one expects us to win the title. All 16 teams will take part in the World Championship to win their games and we have a difficult task in the competition,” Iran coach Jovica Cvetkovic said.

The Serbian coach has inspired Iran youth team to second place in Italy in 2009 before taking charge of the junior team.

This will be 16th edition of the Men’s Junior World Championship. The event will return to the place of its first edition. In 1977, the city of Rio de Janeiro hosted the competition that was won by the extinct Soviet Union. After 34 years, the championship will have the participation of 16 best junior national teams in the world.

The draws:
Pool A – Brazil, United States, Japan, Bulgaria
Pool B – Argentina, Tunisia, Porto Rico, Spain
Pool C – Russia, India, Egypt, Germany
Pool D – Iran, Serbia, Canada, Belgium
