SCIENCE DAY FOR DISABLED KIDS
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- A total of 4,558 disabled children are taking part in the Special Science Day programme organised by the National Science Centre, starting Monday and ending on Thursday.
Among the people invited to speak words of encouragement to them was former private TV3 and NTV7 news anchor Ras Adiba Radzi, herself wheelchair-bound.
"I was happy to share my experiences as a disabled person myself, and I advised them not allow it (their handicap) to be a barrier to success in life," she said.
Assistant director of the centre Mismah Jimbun said the participants included children who are blind or deaf or suffered from down syndrome, communication disorder (autism) or developmental reading disorder (dyslexia).
Underprivileged children have also been invited.
"We hope that the programme will provide excitement and happiness to the disabled and less fortunate participants and at the same time expose them to the world of science," she said at a media briefing.
The activities in the programme include science-geared fun and games and stage performances.
The event is an annual affair organised in collaboration with the Social Welfare Department.
