MALAYSIA NEEDS TO FOCUS ON HIGH-END SERVICES, SAYS MARKETING GURU
KUALA LUMPUR, July 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysia needs to create an identity with a focus on becoming a hub for high-end services, like accounting, legal and information technology (IT), says marketing guru Prof Dr Jagdish Sheth.
He said Malaysia needs to create a hub for each high end service and attract talents from around the world to its hubs here.
One area would be the legal services as the laws are similar for British Commonwealth of countries, said Sheth, the Charles H. Kellstadt
Professor of Marketing at the Goizueta Business School of Emory University.
He, however said as Malaysia may not have all the talents, it would have to attract talents from around the world to the hub here to provide the services, he told reporters after a one-day seminar on the rise of China and India as economic giants.
On opportunities for Malaysian companies from the two rising economies, Sheth said Malaysia should focus on providing services in the niche areas in which it had the edge. These would include infrastructure building, retailing, design, oil and gas, aerospace, palm oil and financial services.
For example, Malaysia has the capabilities in aerospace engineering where it can offer the skills to India as they are becoming big in aerospace and defence.
