Asylum seekers end roof-top hunger strike

SYDNEY, July 27 (AAP) - Asylum seekers have ended a roof-top hunger strike at a Darwin detention centre, immigration officials say.
About 10 men climbed on to the roof of the Northern Immigration Detention Centre on the Stuart Highway on Sunday.
By Tuesday evening officials said there were 20 detainees on the roof and they, as well as another 15 inside the centre, were engaged in a hunger strike.
A Department of Immigration spokesman late Wednesday afternoon said the asylum seekers had ceased their action and climbed down from the roof.
"They will continue to be closely monitored by medical staff," he told AAP.
