MAFPA TO SET UP ANOTHER 12 TRADING HOUSES IN CHINA

PUTRAJAYA, July 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Food Processing and Packaging
Association (MAFPA) will set up another 12 trading houses di China in the next
five years.

Executive Chairman Kamalbahrin Khamsan said that presently, the association
operated three, namely in Shanghai, Chengdu and Guangzhou.

"The new trading houses will focus on China's western regions as its
government is also focusing its efforts to develop these regions," he told
reporters here Wednesday.

He said MAFPA and the International Trade and Industry Ministry were in the
process of identifying the suitable districts and if the new trading houses were
set up, it would generate an annual income of RM300 million (US$100 million).

The trading houses would also make it easy for Malaysian food products,
particularly halal products, to be brought in and distributed, he said.

"The houses will also help entrepreneurs meet the requirements to obtain
certificates from the Chinese authorities before their products can be
distributed," he said.

Earlier, Kamalbahrin delivered a lecture at a seminar opened by Deputy
International Trade and Industry Minister Jacob Dungau Sagan on how to
penetrate the Chinese market.
