Croc caught trying to cross six-lane road

SYDNEY (AAP) - July 28 - A crocodile that gave far-north Queensland morning motorists a fright has been successfully captured.
The 1.5 metre estuarine crocodile crawled out of a drain on to the six-lane Mulgrave Road in Cairns about 8am (AEST) on Thursday.
A motorist spotted the reptile, and highway workers were sent to investigate.
One told the Cairns Post newspaper the croc was "only a whippersnapper".
"It didn't go for us," he said.
"But it probably would have scared a few kids on the way to school."
A policeman and a road worker kept the animal at bay with brooms until rangers arrived and removed it.
The Department of Environment and Resource Management said the croc was being held at the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service facility in Cairns.
It will be relocated to a suitable zoo or crocodile farm.
