PM CALLS ON CIVIL SERVANTS TO PLAY WIDER ROLE TO ACHIEVE NATIONAL AGENDAS

JITRA (Malaysia), July 29 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
Thursday reminded civil servants to play a wider role in implementing and
ensuring the success of government-approved projects.

He said it was incumbent on them to be dedicated in discharging their duties
so that the government's programmes achieved their objectives.

"Government expenditure on approved projects will boost the country's
economy. Failing to spend allocations will cause the economy to slow down," he
said at a people's dinner themed "Prime Minister With People" at Wawasan Hall
here.

Najib said when certain projects were abandoned, it would convey the
impression that the government had no money.

"Hence, the main challenge for us is how to spend the allocations quickly
and effectively to achieve the goals.

"I myself am going down to the ground find out for myself the people's
problems despite having a sprained leg," he told the gathered crowd.

During the dinner, the prime minister also made a pledge to do his level
best for the country.

He also called on opposition-led state governments to work closely with the
federal government for the interest of the people.
