USE NEW POLITICAL MODEL TO SOLVE PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS, SAYS M'SIAN PM
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Political bodies and party wings have
been urged to adopt a new approach based on the new political model instead of
conventional methods in their bid to get the government to solve the people's
problems.
Prime Minister Najib Razak said Friday the move was part of the government's
ongoing political transformation agenda.
He said that through the conventional way, a motion or decision was made by
a political party or its wing to urge the relevant ministry or government to
take the necessary action.
"Through the new political model, however, political bodies like Barisan
Nasional (BN) and its wings are advised to take their own initiative to
implement certain programmes, the outcome of which will solve the people's
problems.
"This way, we will bring the party closer to the people and the people need
not depend on other parties," he said when launching the BN (National
Front)Youth House Ownership Programme Exhibition (BNYHOPE) 2011, at the Putra
World Trade Centre here.
Present were Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and BN Youth
chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
The exhibition, organised by BN Youth, will be held for three days starting
Friday.
Najib said that by adopting the new political model, the people could count
on BN as a party to fulfil their dreams and solve their problems.
On BNYHOPE, the prime minister said he agreed with Abraham Maslow's Theory
on the Hierarchy of Needs that housing was vital in a human's life.
Maslow's theory underlined five levels of human needs, namely Physiological
Needs, Safety Needs, Social Needs, Esteem Needs and Self-Actualisation Needs.
Physiological Needs are described as most important because they are the
literal requirements for human survival, like a place to stay, food, clothing
and water.
"That is why housing is something that is provided by the government, that
is by introducing suitable policies to enable not only the government agencies
but also private sector and government-linked companies to work together in
providing people's housing," he said.
Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said that under the 9th Malaysia Plan,
the government had built 111,000 units of affordable homes, 75 per cent or
83,250 units of which were meant for those with household income of less than
RM2,500 monthly (US$833).
The government had also announced the My First Home Scheme and the 1Malaysia
Housing Programme (PR1MA), which are believed to be able to make a very huge
contribution in terms of people's housing needs, he said.
Najib also stressed that the BN government would remain stable and would not
run away from its responsibility to take care of the Malaysian people, despite
being deluged with harsh criticism.
"What matters is that we are serious and very committed, right from fixing
the price of chicken to fulfilling other needs ... we will always fight for the
interests of the people.
"That is why the BN must not derail. I'm confident that if we stay on track, we will remain the top choice of the Malaysian people," he said.
