MUSLIMS IN SINGAPORE START FASTING MONDAY
SINGAPORE, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Singapore will begin fasting for the month of Ramadan from Monday.
The republic's mufti, Dr Mohamed Fatris Bakaram, made the announcement Sunday.
He said the date was based on astronomical calculations and on the
visibility of the crescent moon.
Local television channel, Channel NewsAsia, reported this was the first time Dr Mohd Fatris was making the announcement since he took office as mufti on Jan 1 this year.
