Chavez advises U.S. to worry about its debt not Iran-Venezuela ties
TEHRAN, Aug.1 (MNA) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has advised the United States to worry about its financial crisis rather than being concerned over relations between Iran and Venezuela, the Fars news agency reported on Sunday.
According to the FNA, Chavez made the remarks in a recent statement addressed to U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen, who expressed concern over close relations between Tehran and Caracas on July 25.
According to the website of Latin American Democracy Defense Organization, Mullen commented on criticism in Congress recently leveled at Venezuela because of its relationship with Iran, saying, “I certainly share their concern in terms of Venezuela’s links to Iran, which have been there for a significant amount of time and are growing.”
Venezuelanalysis.com has reported that Chavez criticized Mullen’s remarks on July 27, saying, “Go and worry about your own affairs, decadent empire.”
The FNA also quoted Chavez as saying that it would be better if Washington worried about the moral crisis among its military forces and the government’s debt.
They (U.S. officials) are not worried about their debt but are concerned about Iran-Venezuela ties, he said, adding, independent countries have the right to have relations with each other.
