MALAYSIAN SQUASH QUEEN REMAINS WISPA WORLD NUMBER ONE FOR 61ST MONTH
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's squash queen Nicol David retained her current position as world no.1 in the Women's International Squash Players Association (Wispa) despite losing in Singapore.
Based to the Wispa official website, Nicol remains in the top position for 61st successive month since August 2007.
In this year's Wispa World Tour, Nicol continues to set the pace, winning three of the five major titles -- the CIMB Kuala Lumpur Open (March 20), Cedrus Investment Cayman Islands Open (April 9) and CIMB Malaysian Open (July 23).
She was the runner-up at the Cleveland Wispa Classic on Feb 2, and failed in her attempt to seal her fifth straight title at the 2011 CIMB Singapore Women's Masters on July 30, as she was defeated by England's Laura Massaro in the semi-finals.
The Australian Open beginning on Aug 9, will be her next assignment and it will be her first appearance in the competition.
As at Aug 1, Nicol, who will be celebrating her 28th birthday on Aug 26, has accumulated an average of 3,278.750 points, while England's Jenny Duncalf also maintained her position in second place with 1,737.059 points.
Ireland's Madeline Perry moved up one rank to take up third position with 1,296.350 points.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's Low Wee Wern slipped two rungs from her current position to 17th placing.
The other Malaysian players ranked are Delia Arnold (23rd), Siti Munirah Jusoh (47th), Pushppa Devi (130th), Rachael Arnold (155th) and Zulhijjah Azan (184th).
Tan Yan Xin and Vanessa Raj shared 206th position with two other players, while Kuan Choy Lin, Lim Yoke Wah, Nessrine Ariffin, Sue Ann Yong and Celine Yeap shared 276th position.
