EGYPT AIR RECOMMENCE OPERATIONS TO KL

SEPANG (Bernama) -- After about five months absence, Egypt Air, the national carrier of Egypt has recommenced its operations to Kuala Lumpur, offering daily service flying on the Cairo-Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur route, effective Tuesday.

The inclusion of Egypt Air takes the number of Middle Eastern airlines serving KL International Airport (KLIA) to 12, offering connections to various capital cities in the Middle East.

The other Middle Eastern airlines flying to KLIA are Iran Air, Emirates, Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Kuwait Airways, Yemena Yemen Airways, Mahan Air, Oman Air and Royal Jordanian.

Egypt Air is the 59th international airline operating at KLIA and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is confident in attracting more airlines to fly to Malaysia with its relentless marketing effort.

Managing director of MAHB, Bashir Ahmad, said passenger movement from the Middle Eastern region for the first half of this year recorded 927,202, which produced a growth 16.1 per cent from the same period in 2010.

"We foresee the Middle Eastern region to continue contributing to higher number of passenger movement this year especially with the inclusion of new airlines," he told reporters after a welcome reception here Tuesday.

Bashir also said passenger movement for MAHB was expected to increase by 10 per cent this year from 58 million last year.

He also said that three airlines -- two from China and one from Indonesia -- have indicated interest to fly into KLIA.
