190 Iran's MPs urge principlist groups to back unity committee

TEHRAN, Aug. 3 (MNA) – 190 lawmakers issued a statement on Tuesday supporting the charter of principlism and advising principlist groups to throw their weight behind the recently established principlists’ unity committee.

The 15-member principlists’ unity committee, made up of representatives of various principlist groups and parties, has recently been set up in a bid to create unity among principlists.

The committee is supposed to work within the framework of the charter of principlism, which was introduced by the Combatant Clergy Association and the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom in January.

“We, as representatives of people in the Majlis, welcome the charter of principlism and are grateful to Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi-Kani for his wise and unifying stances,” the statement read.

The parliamentarians added, “We urge all principlist groups to avoid claiming their share, farsightedly support the mechanism developed by the Combatant Clergy Association and the Society of Seminary Teachers of Qom, and not impede establishment of principlists’ unity.”
