CAKE MAKERS WHO USED NON-HALAL BUTTER TOLD TO CLEANSE EQUIPMENT
KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Producers of layered cake who had used "Golden Churn Creamy Butter", which is confirmed to contain pig DNA, has been directed to cleanse their baking equipment in the prescribed Islamic way.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office Daud Abdul Rahman said the cleansing process was simple and did not take long, and it must be done if the producers wanted their "kuih lapis" to be halal.
He was speaking to reporters here Wednesday after presenting cash assistance amounting to RM51,286 from the Sarawak Baitulmal Fund to 35 people.
Daud asked the state office of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism to act against owners of premises displaying posters claiming the butter was halal.
The Sarawak Layered Cake Producers Association said that it would seek detailed information on the cleansing process from the state religious department.
Association president Rabiah Amit said that some people who made kuih lapis for their own consumption had used the butter and wanted to know how to cleanse their utensils.
