West concerned over Tehran-Riyadh strong ties: MP

TEHRAN, Aug. 3 (MNA) -- Iranian MP Hossein Sobhaninia says certain Western countries are concerned about the development of strong relationship between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Sobhaninia made the remarks in an interview with ISNA published on Tuesday.

He said, “Relations between Iran and regional countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, will serve the interests of Muslim countries and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation… but the United States and Western countries are interfering in the affairs of the region and are concerned over the establishment of strong ties between Iran and certain other countries, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia and thus are making efforts to strain these relations.”

However, Saudi Arabia’s decision to send troops to Bahrain to crack down on pro-democracy protesters was a strategic mistake, and Riyadh should withdraw its troops from the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom as soon as possible, Sobhaninia added.
