PRESERVE PEACE BECAUSE IT'S A LUXURY - M'SIAN PM'S WIFE

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysians should preserve peace as it
is a luxury to be inherited and sustained for future generations.

In making the call, president of the Association of Wives of Ministers and
Deputy Ministers (Bakti) Rosmah Mansor said the people should be thankful that
the prevailing peace was the product of the blood and sweat of the nation's
security forces.

Rosmah, wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, said the turbulence in many
countries resulted in economic decline and political instability which brought
much misery to the people.

"We do not want to bequeath to the coming generations an unstable and
troubled country. We want our grandchildren to inherit the peace we enjoy
today," she said at the presentation of Aidilfitri (Eid) gift packages to
security forces at Bangunan Bakti Siti Hasmah, here, today.

Rosmah said preserving peace in the country, however, should not rest
entirely on the shoulders of the security forces as it was the responsibility of
all sections of society.

Rosmah described the security forces as a national bastion which did not let
its guard down in protecting the country at any time and in any situation.

"Their sacrifice is most noble and should be appreciated by all Malaysians,"
she said, adding that in recognition of this, Bakti continued handing out
contributions to the nation's security forces serving in and outside the country
for the Aidilfitri celebration.

This year, 39,000 such Hari Raya packages are being given out at a cost of
RM351,000 (US$117,000).

Out of the number, 15,000 packages are for the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF),
20,000 for the Royal Malaysian Police and 4,000 for the Malaysian Maritime
Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

Among those present at the handing-over were MAF chief General Tan
Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar and MMEA
director-general Mohd Amdan Kurish.
