UiTM'S WCOPA MEDAL HAUL ATTRIBUTED TO BLENDING OF TECHNIQUES

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Malaysia's Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)'s 17 gold medal haul at the recent World Competition of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Los Angeles was attributed to the blending of local and western dancing techniques.

UiTM WCOPA coordinator Nor Afifi Mohamed Taib said the ability of the participants to bring life to the dances besides uplifting the character and spirit of the dances made their performance unique compared to that of other countries.

He said the participation of UiTM was much awaited by the jury over the years due to the unique elements in the dances.

"Obviously, our performance did not disappoint the jury. They wanted to see uniqueness and entertainment value in the dances," said Nor Afifi when interviewed on the "Ala Carte Pagi" programme over Bernama Radio24 Wednesday.

To ensure the talent of WCOPA participants was not wasted, Nor Afifi proposed that efforts be made to assemble the winners in a performance for the benefit of local audience.
