ASEAN'S BEST TO BATTLE IT OUT FOR ETIQA ASEAN CUP HONOUR

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- The second edition of the Etiqa Asean Cup will be staged at the challenging Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara.

Participants from six Asean countries, including Malaysia will be vying for honour in the four-day competition beginning Monday.

The Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) in a statement today said competition was expected to be stiff, since many talented golfers were participating.

"In line with MGA's vision towards a more progressive and vibrant regional golf development, the tournament is held to create an improved world standard tournament that can benefit the AGF (Asean Golf Federation) member countries," said the statement.

Among them are defending champion from the Negeri Sembilan Amateur Open, Jerome Ng of Singapore and Philippines top amateur, Clyde Mondilla.

The 72-hole stroke play team event will be using the World Cup format.

The first and third days will be played on a four-ball (best ball) format while the second and final days will use the foursome (alternate shots) format.
