Obama celebrates 50th birthday
SYDNEY (AAP) - Aug. 04 - US President Barack Obama is celebrating his 50th birthday at the White House on Thursday.
Obama's senior staff will toast the president in the Blue Room of the White House in the afternoon.
And in the evening, the president will celebrate with family and friends, including some who came in from his hometown of Chicago.
He'll then cap the festivities with a weekend trip to Camp David, the presidential retreat in Maryland.
Obama started his celebrations early, with two birthday-themed events in his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday night to raise money for his re-election campaign.
During the evening, he also spoke via video conference to supporters holding their own presidential birthday events around the country.
A group from North Carolina sang "Happy Birthday," while another in Ohio held up signs wishing the president a happy 50th.
