RAIN, THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED IN CAMERON HIGHLANDS MONDAY
KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Efforts to search and rescue victims of
the landslide tragedy at the Sungai Ruil Orang Asli settlement in Cameron
Highlands are likely to to be hampered by rain and thunderstorms Monday.
The Meterological Department forecast inclement weather for the hill resort
tomorrow with temperatures to be between 17 and 24 degrees Celcius.
Rainfall from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday was recorded at 10mm.
The department's spokesman, when contacted by Bernama, said
average rainfall of between 50mm and 70mm with 24 hours signified heavy rain.
According to the latest reports, a woman was killed while a man and a woman
were seriously injured in the landslide which happened at 5.45pm Sunday.
The Cameron Highlands is one of Malaysia’s most extensive hill stations. It
covers an area of 712 square kilometers. Situated at the north-western tip of
Pahang, the “Camerons” is approximately 200 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur.
