Iranian police dismantle a major drugs ring
TEHRAN, Aug. 9 (MNA) – Iran’s anti-drug police have arrested 8 members of a major drug gang, which was involved in heroin dealings, Brigadier General Hamid Reza Hosseinabadi announced on Monday.
During a joint operation, the anti-drug police forces of Tehran, Isfahan, and Qom provinces also seized 26 kilograms of heroin, 140 kilograms of crack, 214 kilograms of opium and several small arms, including four Kalashnikovs and a colt, Hosseinabadi, commander of the anti-drug police, told reporters.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Hosseinabadi said police have arrested 724 drug smugglers and addicts since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (which started on March 21).
In addition, 738 drug-trafficking rings have also been smashed during the same period, he added.
“During the time, 151 tons of various kinds of illicit drugs have been seized, 6.9 tons of which are heroin, 1.9 ton are morphine, 123 tons are opium, 16 tons are hashish, and 664 kilograms are methamphetamine,” he explained.
