3.8 million Somalis suffer from absolute hunger: Iran
TEHRAN, Aug. 9 (MNA) — The head of an Iranian team who is visiting Mogadishu says about 3.8 people in Somalia are suffering from absolute hunger.
Mahmud Mozaffar, chief of the Iranian Red Crescent Society team in Somalia, told Fars news agency that severe drought has completely changed the face of Somalia, leaving agriculture in ruins and the livestock dead.
“Based on observations the livestock and agriculture have completely vanished,” Mozaffar explained.
He said starvation, vitamin and protein deficiencies, and unhygienic conditions have led to spread of diseases among women and children.
Mozaffar went to say that rescue teams from other countries including Qatar and the UAE are arriving to help famine-struck Somalis.
