Tehran not in hurry to promote ties with Cairo: legislator
TEHRAN, Aug. 10 (MNA) – Tehran is in no hurry to develop relations with Cairo, since Iran is aware of the situation in Egypt, MP Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Monday.
Boroujerdi, heading a parliamnetrary delegation, traveled to Egypt on Monday to mark Iran’s first official visit to the country following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak.
Speaking to a group of Egyptian intellectuals, he said, Iran believes that its relations with Egypt have already been established and the talks between the officials of the two countries show this.
“The reality is that we ourselves went through such period, and ours was more difficult than yours. Before the Islamic Revolution, one thousand U.S. envoys dominated our affairs, they sold our oil to Israel,” he added.
He went on to say that when the Mubarak regime collapsed Washington could no longer prevent the restoration of Tehran-Cairo ties.
One of the Egyptian academics also said relations should be promoted between the two countries to the benefit of both nations.
He added Egypt considers Iran’s honor as its own, adding Cairo believes Iran can help resolve all regional problems.
