GLOBAL PEACE MALAYSIA NEEDS USD332,187 TO AID SOMALIANS
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama)-- Global Peace Malaysia (GPM), a
non-governmental organisation (NGO) which gives aid across the border, needs
financial assistance of at least RM1 million (USD332,187) to ease the starvation
problem faced by the people of Somalia, particular the Muslims, which was
becoming more critical.
GPM president Mohamad Raimi Abdul Rahim said currently the people of Somalia
badly needed food aid, clean water, medical treatment and a place to stay.
He said the first aid for the Somalian Muslims would be disbursed within the
third week of Ramadan.
"The balance of the aid would be disbursed after the Ramadan because of the
possibility that the drought problem may become worse," he said when launching
the Somalia Ramadan Fund, here Wednesday.
He said members of the public could make their contribution through the
Malaysian Islamic Bank's Global Peace Mission account number 1402-30100-29224.
