World Bank official bids farewell to Laos

(KPL) Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, received a farewell visit of a World Bank official, Mr Ian Porter, Director General of the World Bank in Southeast Asia and the Pacific at his office on 30 September. He would be ending his eight-year mission in Laos in 2008.
Mr Bouasone told Mr Porter that Laos valued the good relations and close cooperation with the World Bank as it had provided funds for development and poverty reduction.
On the same day, Mr Porter met Dr Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Dr Thongloun expressed his thanks to the bank for the support it has given to the priority projects of the Lao government.
In recognition of the good work of Mr Porter, the Minister of Planning and Investment, Mr Soulivong Dalavong presented the Friendship Medal to Mr Porter.
The aid from this bank covered 28 projects, worth US$357million, the bulk in credit loans at low interest (US$ 329,285,978) and a small portion in grant aid projects (US$ 28 million).
