PEPSI to build second factory in Champassak

(KPL) The Lao Soft Drink Company, better known as PEPSI and based in Vientiane, announced yesterday that it would build its second factory in Champassak province in order to reduce the cost of transporting its bottled drink from Vientiane to the south.
Currently in the preparatory process of the building, the company is purchasing new equipment for the construction, estimated to be over in 2009. PEPSI would not disclose the cost of the infrastructure.
Mr Noumanh, Phanvongsa, Vice-Managing Director of the Lao Soft Drink Company, disclosed that the decision to carry out such an operation was due to the high cost of fuel and to further expand its distribution network in the southern provinces of Laos.
He told the KPL reporter that the new factory would be located in the locality of the second Lao Brewery Company in Champassak province since the two beverage companies have close equity linkages.
In 2007, the Lao Soft Drink Company sold 70 per cent of its shares to Carlsberg of Denmark and Carlsberg bought 50 per cent of the shares of the Lao Brewery Company.
