“A Mother’s Old Silk Skirt” wins SEA Write Award

(KPL) Mr O-Thong Kham-Inshou has won the annual South East Asian Write Award (SEA Write) from his short story “A Mother’s Old Silk Skirt”.
The Ministry of Information and Culture held a press conference to announce the award on Tuesday with the participation of the President of the Lao Writers’ Association Mr Chanthy Deuansavanh.
“I have sent stories to compete for the SEA Write Award five times so far and four of them failed. However I have never thought I will win the prize this time,” said Mr O-Thong.
“This story portrays the conservation of traditional Lao cultural attire, specially the “sinh” (the symbolic traditional Lao skirt), and that the pride of Lao women of its distinct neatly woven pattern,” Mr. O-thong added.
The award was judged by jury grouping together with representatives from the Lao Writers’ Association, Publishing and Distributing Department representing the Ministry of Information and Culture, SEA Writers, Mekong River Award writers and the Meuang Lao Tourism Magazine.
A SEA Write Award Ceremony for winners from nine ASEAN countries will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 25 Sept-1 Oct, synchronously with the SEA Write Week.
