BALI BOMBING SUSPECT UMAR PATEK EXTRADICTED TO INDONESIA

JAKARTA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Umar Patek, a suspect of the 2002 Bali bombing
who was extradited from Pakistan Wednesday, was brought under heavy security to
the Indonesian Police Command headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, in southern
Jakarta, Thursday.

Indonesian police confirmed the return and detention of the suspect.

Umar, 41, who is believed to have information relating to the terrorist
network in Asia, was caught by Pakistani security forces in Abbottabad in
January.

He was captured not far from the house of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden
who was shot dead by US commandos in May.

Umar is believed to have had a role as a bomb maker in the 2002 Bali attack
on two night clubs in which 202 people were killed, the majority of whom were
Australian tourists.
