MINISTER SATISFIED WITH FLY THE MALAYSIAN FLAG CAMPAIGN

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Information Communication and Culture
Minister Dr Rais Yatim is satisfied with the Fly the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian
Flag) Campaign with about 200,000 out of one million flags being distributed
nationwide.

"So far I am satisfied with the response from the public and businesses
although many buildings had yet to hoist the national flag," he told reporters
after distributing the Jalur Gemilang to traders along Jalan Masjid India here
Thursday.

He said the ministry had also distributed at least 1,000 flags in each
parliamentary constituency and urged elected representatives and state
governments to contribute additional flags.

On dismay expressed by Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Fuad Ismail over
lukewarm response from business and residential premises in the capital to the
campaign, Rais said maybe the celebration was still early and hoped it would
gain intensity as the independence day celebration drawing closer.

Earlier Rais, who was accompanied by his wife, Masnah Rais
visited shops along Jalan Masjid India to present national flags, portraits of
Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak and the Rukun Negara (Malaysia's
national ideology) in frames to traders.

Deputy Information Communication and Culture Minister Maglin Denis
D'Cruz, ministry's secretary-general Kamarudin Siaraf, and heads of
departments and agencies under the ministry joined Rais in the walkabout.

Rais and his entourage later broke their fast at Masjid India (mosque) in
Jalan Masjid India before performing the Maghrib prayer.
