MALAYSIAN THRILLED TO BE VOLUNTEER AT UNIVERSIADE 2011

 From Ahmad Muliady Abdul Majid

SHENZHEN, China, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Malaysian student Tan Jwu Shin rides a bicycle for an hour daily in hot weather to get to the World University Games (Universiade) 2011 media centre to spend hours more as a volunteer at the event.

"Although it is tiring riding a bicycle in hot weather, the tiredness disappears the moment I see Malaysian athletes," the Shenzhen University student told Bernama Saturday.

Tan, 23, who also served as a volunteer at the Asian Games in Guangzhou last year and the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, said his involvement as a volunteer did not affect his studies at the university at all.

He said he did not want to miss the opportunity of gaining experience and to give his moral support to Malaysian athletes taking part in the biennial games.

"As a Malaysian citizen, I am happy that I am able to play my part to help the national contingent and sports journalists from my country," said the final-year Communications student who is from Kuala Lumpur.
