NATIONAL FOOD STORE WILL BE MAJOR ASSET TO FELDA
HULU TERENGGANU (Terengganu, Malaysia), Aug 13 (bernama) -- The National Food Store plan will become a major asset to Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) if revenue from oil palm is not longer substantial, said special adviser to the prime minister on Felda matters Dr Mohd Yusof Noor.
He said it was feared that Malaysia might lose its competitive advantage to emerging producers like Indonesia and Papua New Guinea which had been expanding oil palm acreage.
Hence, Felda has prepared action plans to be carried out by the management and settlers with the first phase spanning over 10 years.
"The first 10 years of the plan is crucial as further development will depend on it," he told reporters after presenting Aidilfitri contributions to settlers at the Felda Sri Bading Mosque here Saturday.
Mohd Yusof said Felda settlers were encouraged into large-scale production of bananas and tilapia before going into livestock rearing, and seaweed and swiftlet farming.
With vast experience behind them, he said the settlers were capable of assisting Felda to be the national food store.
