No respect for democracy or human rights in Britain: Iran's top legislator
TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (MNA) – Top Iranian legislator Alaeddin Boroujerdi says there is no respect for democracy or human rights in Britain.
Lately, the British government has planned to deploy its army forces to suppress the people while army forces are only tasked to protect the territorial integrity of a country, Boroujerdi told reporters on Saturday.
The repressive measures of the British government are indicative of the fact that there is no respect for democracy or human rights in the country’s ruling system, he stated.
In Britain, some people protested against the poor social conditions in the country, but in response the government ruthlessly suppressed the demonstrators instead of trying to listen to their demands, he explained.
Boroujerdi also regarded the recent unrest in Britain as an important litmus test for the country in which the British government failed.
London human rights claim is nothing more than a lie
MP Amin Hossein Rahimi also says the British government’s crackdown on the protesters revealed the fact that human rights claim by the country is nothing more than a lie.
Even if the current situation in Britain gets worse, the United Nations Security Council will not take a position in this regard, Rahimi told IRNA on Saturday.
Rahimi, who is the spokesman of Majlis Legal and Judicial Committee, said the structure of the Security Council should be revised in a way to compel Britain and other council’s permanent members to observe human rights standards.
