Iran to send third aid cargo to Somalia

TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (MNA) -- Iran plans to send its third cargo of humanitarian aid to famine-stricken Somalia, Mahmoud Mozaffar, an official at the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) announced on Sunday.

The cargo weighs 40 tons and will be sent by air tonight (Sunday night), Mozaffar said.

He also announced that a cargo of humanitarian assistance weighing 100 tons will be shipped to the famine-hit African country soon.

Mozaffar added that the two aid cargos that Iran already dispatched to Somalia went to the aid of 100,000 Somalis who are struggling with death.

He also said that Iran was among the first countries to come to the aid of Somalia, which is grappling with famine.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mozaffar announced that a cargo of humanitarian assistance weighing 40 tons will be soon sent to Libya, which has been dragged into a civil war.
