'Famine in Somalia a disgrace to global management system'
TEHRAN, Aug. 14 (MNA) – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has strongly criticized world powers for appropriating poor nations’ resources, saying the fact that today millions of people are facing a devastating famine in Somalia is a shame for the countries that claim to be in control of the world’s ruling system.
“Official statistics show that there are over three billion poor people around the world and over 1.2 billion people live in absolute poverty, indicating that the world has not developed properly despite claims made by pretenders to the management of world’s affairs,” Ahmadinejad said on Sunday during the induction ceremony of the new minister of cooperatives, labor, and social welfare, Abdolreza Sheikholeslami.
“Upsetting pictures of the famine in Somalia, which are being broadcast these days, are a disgrace to those who claim to be in charge of the world’s affairs,” he added.
President pledges to eradicate unemployment
Elsewhere in his remarks, the president said that the government should make every effort to reduce the unemployment rate to zero.
“We could create 1.6 million job opportunities last (Iranian calendar) year (which ended on March 21), and it is possible to create 2.5 million job opportunities this year,” he said.
