HONEYMOON PACKAGES POPULAR WITH MATTA FAIR VISITORS

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) - Honeymoon packages seem popular with visitors to the 2011 Matta Fair which ends at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here Sunday.

East Malaysia state of Sabah Tourism Consultative Council sales manager Normegawati Sapian said there were numerous enquiries at the council's booths for information on honeymoon destinations in the state.

"Sipadan Island, Kota Kinabalu and Mount Kinabalu were favourites," she told Bernama.

Equator Adventure Sdn Bhd manager Fairul Pat Lingham said, apart from Sipadan, the company had requests for honeymoon packages to nearby Mabul Island.

"Mabul is a beautiful spot for honeymooners but can be very expensive, up to RM1,000 a package (US$335). We offer cheaper options between RM588 (US$197) and RM788 (US$196.94), with snorkelling, diving, jungle trekking and guided tours," he said.

Syahrul Ramadhan, of Bengkalis Tourism Board, Riau, Indonesia said the beautiful beaches in Bengkalis, about 90 minutes away from southern state of Melaka, were an attractive draw for honeymooning couples.

Promoting Brunei at the exhibition was the MegaBorneo Tour Planner whose operations director Khairul Zainie said the sultanate had many places of interest for couples on honeymoon.

"We have packages suitable for Muslim couples, with halal food and
attractions such as the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque and Islamic artifacts at the Darul 'Ifta building," he said.

Melaka's Naza Talyya Hotel sales manager Marzila Ahmad said there were many enquiries on honeymoon suites, particularly at their hotels in Melaka, Johor Baharu and Penang.

There is a special hall dedicated to a bridal exhibition and honeymoon packages for newlyweds at the fair in PWTC.
