National economy still moves forward

(KPL) The national economy has maintained growth over the past two and half years and keeps on growing, said Minister of Planning and Investment Soulivong Daravong.
This was the result of the implementation of the sixth five-year plan of socio-economic development, 2006-10.
The gross domestic production (GDP) grew by 8.1 % in the 2005-06 fiscal year, 8% in the 2006-07 period and is predicted at 7.9% in the 2007-08 period. In other word, the average GDP grows by 8% during the five-year period.
The growth in the GDP will push the per capita income from US$534 to US$619 and US$810 this year. This exceeds the target set by the resolution of the 8th Party Congress at US$800 in 2010.
The figure was disclosed by Mr Soulivong at a meeting held in Vientiane last week to review the implementation of the resolution of the 8th Party Congress.
The GDP growth is attributed to three main components - agriculture and forestry sector, industry and services.
