M'SIA-CHINA TO SIGN MOU ON SECURITY, IMMIGRATION, TRANSNATIONAL CRIME

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Next month, Malaysia and China will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on security, immigration and transnational crime in China, said Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.

Speaking to reporters at a joint press conference with China's Ambassador to Malaysia Chai Xi here on Tuesday, he said the MoU was part of the initiative of the two countries to combat human trafficking and people smuggling.

He said he was in Beijing last week to meet his counterpart, adding that they agreed to sign an MoU on security and transnational crime and immigration.

"I feel the relationship between Malaysia and China, especially in the area of security and stability of this region and combating transnational crime, especially human trafficking and people smuggling, is of the highest priority," he added.

Meanwhile, Chai Xi said, he was pleased to have good cooperation with Hishammuddin and optimistic of the strategic relationship between the two countries.
