Members of the second Ramadan mission arrive to Cairo

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Members of the second Ramadan mission to Gaza, organised by the Malaysian Islamic Organisations Consultative Council (Mapim), arrived in Cairo, Egypt at 9am local time on Tuesday.

Head of mission Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, who is also Mapim secretary-general, said all the 33 members, including national astronaut Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, were in good health.

They brought medicines, food and surgical equipment.

In a statement e-mailed to Bernama on Wednesday, Mohd Azmi said after arriving in Cairo, they met the Malaysian Ambassador to Egypt, Dr Fakhruddin Abdul Mukti, to get a clearer picture of the security situation at the Egypt-Rafah border.

“We were informed that the situation at the border was not stable, but members of the mission are determined to complete the mission.

"Hence, we hope for Malaysians to pray for our safety and to make our passage to Gaza easier," he said.
