6TH PAN-BEIBU GULF ECONOMIC COOPERATION FORUM KICKS OFF ON THURSDAY

NANNING (Guangxi, China), Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The 6th Pan-Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation (PBGEC) Forum will kick off at the International Conference Centre, Liyuan Resort, here on Thursday.

About 200 participants including officials, experts, scholars from research institutions and representatives from financial institutions and international organisations from China and Asean have gathered for the two-day forum in the capital city of China's Southwest Guangxi Zhang Autonomous Region

Deputy Director-General of the Planning, Construction and Administration Commission of Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, Chen Ruixian, said the annual PBGEC Forum was an important window for bilateral cooperation and platform to expand bilateral trade.

"The forum will enhance its cohesiveness and influence.

"It will expand Asean-China cooperation and accelerate the China-Asean Free Trade Area (CAFTA) and common prosperity of China and Asean members," he said in a media conference on Wednesday.

Themed "Progress of CAFTA Development and PBG Economic Forum", the forum will continue to pursue the purpose of "Co-building A new China-Asean Growth Pole".

Chen, who is also Deputy Secretary-General of the Organising Committee of the 6th PBGEC Forum, said that this year, the forum would be more intensive and innovative as there would be three seminars, namely the PBG Think Tank Summit: Regional Connectivity and Cross-Boarder Cooperation, the PBG Cooperation Financial Summit-Cross-boarder Trade and Investment, and the PBG Tourism Cooperation.

"Experts of the PBG Joint Expert Group and the PBG think tanks have done a lot of research work on these issues. They will conduct an in-dept discussion to find pragmatic measures to solve the issues," he said.

The PBGEC Forum has been held annually in Nanning since 2006. It has become a major platform for China-Asean cooperation.
