DON'T BE BIASED TOWARDS SPECIAL COMMITTEE - DPM
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin on Thursday advised opposition members not to be biased towards the establishment of the Parliamentary Special Select Committee, especially in terms of its composition.
He said they should regard the formation of the committee as a bold effort by the government. Prime Minister Najib Razak announced on Monday that a parliamentary select committee will be formed to discuss issues related to the electoral reforms before the next general election.
"Its composition will be raised and tabled during the coming Parliament session. What's important to us is the Prime Minister's sincerity in accepting the proposal.
"Stop making assumptions and use this opportunity as a platform to discuss matters," Muhyiddin told reporters after attending a Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) appreciation function at the RMP College in Cheras, here.
Muhyiddin was commenting on the dissatisfaction among the opposition after Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohamed Nazri Aziz announced the Cabinet's decision to set up the committee on Wednesday.
The Cabinet has agreed on a committee, made up of five ruling Barisan Nasional representatives, three opposition and one independent member, which will be responsible for strengthening electoral laws and regulations in the country.
