ENGLISH PRO CHANCELLOR SEES MALAYSIA AS EDUCATION HUB

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The high quality of education in Malaysia
has attracted many foreign students, said University of East London Pro
Vice-Chancellor International Prof John Shaw.

He said Malaysia has in recent years developed into a fine education
hub, as can be seen from the number of students from around the world, including
China, Nigeria and Kazakhstan, in universities and university colleges in the
country.

"They come here because they know they can get a very high quality
education," he told reporters here today after the signing of the Memorandum of
Understanding between UEL and the Pusrawi International College of Medical
Sciences.

Shaw signed for UEL while Picoms was represented by its executive chairman
Mohd Zubir Sheikh Saad. Also present was Minister in the Prime Minister's
Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom.

Shaw said UEL chose to work with Picoms because of its good reputation as a
good provider of biomedical education in Kuala Lumpur.

Shaw, who has been based in Kuala Lumpur since November last year, said
UEL also had cooperation agreements with other local universities, including
Universiti Teknologi Mara.

UEL has more than 28,000 students, of whom 3,500 are Malaysians, he said.
